• Daddy eagle returns to the nest with a teaching toy for his twin eaglets - a branch - used to teach the babies how to grasp onto a perch - and when they do, the weight of the branch anchor's the eaglet(s) down - so they can learn to spread their wings and exercise the muscles they will need to fly, without fear of liftoff ...

  • ~ Building their first nest is often a long and arduous task for 'birds of prey', and so they tend to return to that same nest, year after year, replenishing its construction each season ...
~ Reportedly, this pair of eagles (it is thought it is their first mating) arrived early and took ownership of what had been the established nest of a pair of red tail hawks. As the story goes, a fierce battle ensued - as the eagles had already laid their eggs - and the hawks lost the fight ... But now, each day, one (or both) of the hawks will buzz the eagles nest, threatening its new (squatter) occupants along with their two infant hatchlings ... ~Depicted here is one of those hawks - coming in straight towards the occupied nest - for what turns out to be a most threatening flyby ...

  • Mother eagle has left her high lookout perch and is now stationed firmly on the outer edge of her nested fortress - positioning herself above and in front of her babies ... her eagle eyes never leave the approaching hawk, and she never flinches a feather as the threat decends closer to the edge ...
    "too close for comfort ..."..2018
  • Alas! Just a passing threat - this time - but as formidable and steadfast a protector she may be, Mommy Eagle knows there remains 'a clear and present danger' ...

  • Finally! A tiny dusky head sticks up above the nest's edge - my first glimpse at an infant bald eagle (!!!) in the wild!

  • The American Bald Eagle !
Majestic! Powerful! Incredibly graceful ... Breathtakingly beautiful ... an absolute thrill to capture my very first 'bird in flight' image - and to have it be an Eagle in the wild ...?
• May not be the best image, but it represents a thrill I never thought I would have - to bear witness to a real, live, American Bald Eagle soaring high above me ... not too shabby.
